First Competition
The first competition for young composers


The members of the jury of the first competition were:

The jury chose the three compositions that stood out most for their quality.
The first prize was won by Sam Wu (1995) from Australia, with his composition Mass Transit for piano quintet. Wu himself is a composer who is building a serious artistic career, which includes studies at the prestigious Juilliard School and Harvard University, collaboration with important names of the world music scene, and numerous awards, to which was added the one which goes by the name of Isidora Žebeljan.
Second place went to Veljko Nenadić (1998) from Serbia, a former student of Isidora Žebeljan, with the composition Strip (Comic Book) for piano and synthesizer. Veljko Nenadić is a composer with a large number of awards in the country and abroad, amongst which his victories at the Sixth „Ennio Morricone“ International Competition of Choral Compositions and the Bartok World Competition, as well as the „Luigi Nono“ Competition, stand out. Veljko Nenadić’s compositions are performed at concerts all over Europe, and his works are published by Donemus (Netherlands).
The third prize was won by Tsz Long Yu (1999), a composer and horn player from Hong Kong (China), with the composition Torrent for flute and electronics. Long Yu’s works have been performed at several festivals in Hong Kong.
